Contract Killers is a January 13th DVD release from First Look Studios and Director/Co-Writer Justin Rhodes. The movie stars Frida Farrell as Jane, a former CIA agent framed for the murder of her husband. Jane must try to solve the mystery of his death while forced to return to a life she was hoping to avoid.

A disavowed CIA agent, Jane is living a normal, happy life when she is falsely accused her husband's murder. Forced to run, Jane tries to uncover the real killer and soon discovers her former boss, Witkoff (Nick Mancuso), is behind the conspiracy. A race for survival is commenced and Jane must reveal the dark secret before Witkoff and his men catch her.

Contract Killers offers some nice action and a few killings to satisfy the aggressive action movie fanatic. The setup and development of the story is a bit shallow, however. The plot origin of the movie is actually very similar to some other recent films we've reviewed - Cyber Soldier, In Hell and Death Race. The main difference with Contract Killers is that the main character framed for the spouse's murder is a woman. In each movie though, the crux of the story centers on a strong character wrongfully imprisoned or mistreated who must find freedom while seeking revenge.

Unfortunately with Contract Killers, there simply was not enough depth to the movie to capture the viewer's attention and energy. Frida Farrell is fine as the hard-edged lead but I could not get Hilary Swank out of mind when watching her. The relationship that developed (eventual into a sexual encounter) between Jane and a man she took "captive" later in the story was just weird. We are led to believe that Jane is developing feelings for the man but the movie cuts back to images of her husband being killed just a few days prior. Whether she is just lonely or actually cares for the man, this part of the story was disturbing. The best course of action is to watch Contract Killers with a realistic expectation for story and an interest in gun play.
